Marketers understand the importance of providing relevant content for customers on social media outlets, whether it's discounts that will appeal to the appropriate demographic; meaningful content; photos, videos or—among social media's newest trends—gamified applications.

Sure, we all get that content is key to not only capturing your customers' interest, but to sustaining it.

But posting the right content is not enough when it comes to overcoming the pitfalls of Facebook marketing faux pas.

When you post is also incredibly important.

Why is that?

For starters, Facebook fans are difficult enough to actually engage beyond the "like" stage. Taking this difficulty into account, brands need to play the numbers game on social media. Which means, they need to ensure that their posts reach the largest audience possible.

Promoting your message when your target audience is the most receptive to it means they'll be more likely (1) to get the message in the first place, and (2) feel inclined to act on it.

So what's the key to success in social media postings?

Make it relevant to your target audience and demographics. Time your postings accordingly. Rinse and repeat.
